Fearful Friday

We are hunkering down! There are THREE big storms heading our way! Mom and Dad are a little worried about getting out on Sunday, so we hope its not too bad. Its hard to believe we might have up to a foot of snow by Saturday, today was almost 60 degrees! But it was really windy. Mom took me out in the back yard, and although it was nice it wasn't so cold, I didn't like the wind much. I chased some leaves, and checked out the wood pile for lizards and chipmunks, then ran to the slidy glass door to be let back in! I hope I get to go out tomorrow...

Mom talked to the V-E-T about giving us Dramamine for the trip home on Sunday. He said there are two references for dosage. One says 12. 5 mg (1/4 of a 50 mg tablet) for an average size cat. The other says 4 to 8 mg of Dramamine per kg body weight. Kavan weighs 11.5 lbs (a little more than 5 kg) and I weigh 11 lbs (5 kg, can you believe he outweighs me now???). So we could each get up to 40 mg! Mom and the V-E-T both decided on 1/2 a tablet for each of us. I've never been given medication, so I'm a little nervous about it. I keep hearing Mom and Dad say something about "burrito" cat. I'm not sure what they mean. Kavan is used to getting meds, although he has never been pilled.

Maybe we will get snowed in and not have to leave.....

First, the lady says you both look adorable on that sofa. She also agrees that 1/2 pill each sounds like a good dose, that is what a vet had told her in the past as well. My humans are used to large snowfalls and poor road conditions but they are helped by the winterizing of those alien boxes on wheels. We wish you all good luck and a safe trip, change your return plans if the forecast is bad.

Purrrs,
Tamra

P.S. My servants hate to make me suffer by pushing pills down my throat so they got pill pockets when I had to take my UTI medication, if you don't have treats to wrap around the pill, you can put it in peanut butter or anything else you like! It's worth a try...

I think that means that you will be very relaxed and act like you have no bones, flopping everywhere. But I'm not sure dramamine will make you into a Burrito Cat.

Hmm...well always hold the pill and spit it out later!! Pretend to swallow and then go spit it out. You'll be having a nice calm trip home!

We don't know if your people ever take dramamine, but our Mommy has to take it for airplanes, boats, and movies with jitter-cam. She says it dissolves very quickly, but is yucky if it dissolves in your mouth and can make your tongue feel numb. It's best to swallow it quickly, and maybe have a little drink or a treat afterwards. If you can't swallow it quickly it still works pretty well if it has dissolved while in your mouth. Good luck!

We hope that the medicine does the trick. Just tell your mom to remember to give it to you about 1/2 an hour before you guys go because it takes about that long to get into your system, and you don't want to spend the first 1/2 hour of the trip miserable.

We hope you don't get any snow. We are also in Southern California and are looking forward to the rain we are going to get. So far its looking to be a much wetter season this year (thank goodness).

Dramamine sounds scary. We hope you have a safe travel home... but if it is snowy perhaps you should stay and be safe!

G'day Tara and Kavan

You both look great in the photo. Sorry to hear about having to take the medicine - but if helps you to not be sick on the car ride, then you'd better take it. Neither of us like riding in the car much either.

Stay safe,

If the Dramamine works, and you decide to do it each trip, you might want to try the Pill Pockets. Not all cats like them, as I can certainly attest, but for the cats that do like them, it makes pilling SO EASY! I found them at PetsMart with the OTC cat medicine stuff.
